Day 2

I see your face as the trees wave goodbye to the day
I feel the touch of warmth your smile brings on the wind
I reach for you and there is nothing but empty air
The kind of void that will never feel real

You always got to play the angel and the devil
Shedding horns and sprouting dazzling wings
Leaving me to clean up all your messes
After the parties, the benders and the bad dreams

Through it all you were mine, to love and torment
To pull you too close then watch you aimlessly drift away
To drain you of all essence and drink up all your will
Then mop up any wayward guilt, any errant remorse

I was lamenting your absence long before you were gone,
Realizing there was nothing left, a shell of blood and bone
One moment you were there, growing vines around my feet
And the next, in a blink, sunrays were shimmering right through

I can see you dancing barefoot for the full moon,
Kicking up dust, flailing your hair, arms high to the sky
Whirling and twirling up a storm for the Gods of chaos
Stomping on wildflowers and my longing for you
Chanting a wicked spell to never return
